Swift announce drafted women’s players

Swift have added three players to their Women’s squad as they look surge past the competition on their way to The Fly 2022 crown in June!

Cece Green, Lucy Devine and Chloe Wyner will be part of a Swift team that surge together as one after being selected in the Women’s team draft.

Head Coach, Raj Rout, joined by Kieran Pegrum-Milner as Assistant Coach will be looking to use his drafted players to improve his squad tactically.

After becoming the inaugural winners of The Fly last year, will need to use all their energy and focus to retain the title at this year’s competition. Let’s take a look at how they line up.

Cece Green:

The first draft pick for Swift is Cece Green, a fast and agile right-handed attacker, who has played at the U19 World Championships (field) and the U20 European Championships.

Head Coach, Raj Rout, explained why Green was his first choice, saying: “She is a talented player. I first got to meet Cece playing for Centaurs in Genk at the European Championships. She did very well and then subsequently went onto the England U19 squad that headed over to the World Championships.

“Now she’s in the U23 squad playing some nice lacrosse and I’m pairing her with my other pick Lucy Devine: two players who have played together since they were young in that U19 team and now currently at Durham University together so I’m hoping that they can bring some of that chemistry to Swift.”

On playing in The Fly, Green said: “I would love to take part in The Fly 2022 because it is a competition which involves all the highest playing athletes in Great Britain. 

“I would love to meet and play with a variety of players, and I am sure I would learn so much. The Fly looks like such a competitive, exciting and fast competition, and I would love to be part of any team.”

Lucy Devine:

Green’s aforementioned partner in crime, Lucy Devine, is the second pick for Swift.

Devine is also right-handed but is a two-way midfielder, notorious for having good vision and playing with a strong drive.

Athletic in speed, agility, balance and stability, Devine watched The Fly last year and cannot wait to get started in this year’s competition.

“Having watched and followed The Fly 2021, it seemed like an incredible opportunity, both on and off the field. 

“Firstly, the new sixes format is so exciting and dynamic, and it is the future of the game: the standard and level of competition was exceptionally high, and playing against and alongside representatives from different countries would be amazing. 

“On a personal level, I believe that my style of play is very well-suited to this format. Secondly, The Fly itself is playing a huge part in helping to grow the game of lacrosse, and that is something that I would love to be involved with.”

Chloe Wyner:

Chloe Wyner is a left-handed attacker who has a strong elbow in her playing style. Having played for the Senior England team and in the 2018 and 2019 Super leagues, she has plenty of experience under her belt.

Wyner tends to shine under pressure and is able to affect the game in many different ways which will help Swift as they aim to blow the opposition out of the water yet again.

On playing in the competition this year, Wyner said: “To continue to develop my own game experience of six-a-side and continue to grow the game as well by participating will be fantastic.”
