The selections for the Men’s draft for The Fly 2023 will be revealed on Wednesday 1 March with the four teams selecting seven players to add to their rosters for this year’s competition.
We take a look at some of the key names to look out for who could be big picks for this year.
(The full Men’s draft player pool is detailed at the bottom of this preview)
Louis Alhage – A top scorer at The Fly 2022, Alhage is back in the player draft for 2023, with an enhanced reputation in the Sixes game.
Alhage demonstrated his intelligent, two-way game as part of Swift’s squad last season as a goal getter and solid defensive option, his experience at The Fly should see him as a smart pick for coaches in the 2023 draft.
Dan Watson – A lefty attacker with bags of quality, Watson looks a standout name in the player pool and certain to court interest from all teams as he returns to The Fly following a debut season with Forge in 2021.
Watson is certified all-rounder, representing England in Box, Field, and Sixes picking up a gold medal at the 2022 Box Euros, he should be a key asset for any team looking earn themselves silverware in 2023.
Jack Allen – A young goalkeeper who drew attention at the U20 World Championship with a number of eye-catching performances – A real livewire between the pipes, Allen’s game looks suited to the tough requirements called on for a Sixes goalie, and should be on the coaches’ radar come the draft.
Allen has a bright future ahead already, securing a spot in the England Senior Training squad, playing for GB at the recent EuroLax Sixes, and a spot at NCAA Ohio State university for 2024, a draft pick at The Fly 2023 should be another string to his bow following the draft.
Hugo Peel – Another England youngster who announced himself in spectacular fashion at the U20 World Championship, Peel is just 17 years old but that is unlikely to detract coaches from being drawn to his natural goalscoring abilities and aggressive style perfect for Sixes.
Peel scored 17 goals for Great Britain at the recent EuroLax Sixes and expect big competition for his selection in the draft as he makes his debut at The Fly 2023.
Will Shirt – A natural two-way midfielder able to contribute at both ends of the field, Shirt is another returner to The Fly for 2023 after competing for Hustle in the inaugural year of the competition.
An England U20 Euros gold medal winner and World Championship representative, Shirt also represented Great Britain at the EuroLax Sixes and looks comfortable in the senior environments that should make him a big name to look out for at The Fly.
